I am interested in becoming a Veterinarian. I love animals and I find that I am always concerned with their needs. My inspiration comes from my mom. She has always found an injured animal and cared for it as much as she could, I want to be that person. To be educated about how to properly care for an animal. I always challenge myself when it comes to school. I have taken AP and college classes. I am a part of many clubs, Latino Student Union, peacejam, Med club, and our school’s student store. I have volunteered at Greenhill Humane Society, where my yearn to be a veterinarian become more bounded. There I gained experience with the animals as well as maintenance skills in the environment in animals. Being a part of the Health Services is such an amazing opportunity. Everything that we learn in the class serves us a purpose, in helping ourselves and others. I am a first generation graduate. Not only will I be the first to attend college, but also the first to graduate high school. Aside from my love of caring for animals, I want to represent latinos/latinas in this field. There are not many represented and I want to be a part of that working in progress change.

Ever since I was young I've had the drive to be in the medical field. But when I got diagnosed with a bleeding disorder my dream to pursue the medical field became more motivational. This disorder has made me more aware of the medical attention needed worldwide. A lot of people don't receive their medical treatment or even emergency treatment because of financial statues. This leads to my interests being a medical researcher or following cardiothoracic surgery. I want to be able to help and donate my time to people who need the attention. We all deserve the same medical attention no matter the financial statues of families. I've been committed to my high school basketball team and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). I am also in the Churchill Health Services Pathway (CHSP) to expand my knowledge in the medical field. I'm involved in a summer bleeding disorder camp for kids who have a bleeding disorder and I help them treat by infusing because I know the challenge it was to learn. This shows I am committed and compassionate for other people. My goal is to give people the medical attention we all deserve and make a positive impact on people globally.

I have had an interest in healthcare since a very young age. However, there was one experience that gave me the desire to pursue nursing as a career. My brother had a stroke at the age of sixteen. He spent several weeks in the hospital. The nurses that took care of him had a huge impact not only on him but myself and my entire family. It was a very traumatic time but the empathy and the care that the nurses provided was invaluable. I want to provide that care to others and their families. After high school I wish to attend the nursing program at Lane Community College. I am mainly interested in pediatrics and labor and delivery, although I would love to gain experience in any health field to expand my knowledge.

My initial interest in the medical field was dental hygiene. I became interested in this because I liked that I could help others maintain good oral hygiene. But recently, two main reasons, I think, helped push me in the direction of nursing. The first was when I joined the medical pathway because I learned skills that required me to interact and care for a patient. The second reason was an incident where my little brother had a sudden nose bleed. This really made me interested in the nursing career because when I saw him look so scared and confused about why his nose was bleeding it made me compassionate and I felt an urgency to help him. It was also the first time I ever had to actually “care” for someone. Being in the medical pathway really helped me to learn to care for others physically and emotionally.

Being an athlete requires many doctors visits for various nagging injuries. In more recent years I have been in physical therapy for sports related injuries and have grown quite interested in the profession. Seeing how one person can make such an impact on my physical health makes me want to do the same for others. After high school, I am going to LCC to run track and finish my prerequisites. I plan to then transfer to a university to further my education and my athletic career.
|
Having a career in the medical field has been heavily influenced on me at an early age. My interest is to pursue a career in the dental field just like my father. When I was young, I remember watching my father leave to third world countries and provide dental treatment to people who needed his help. I want to follow his footsteps and become a dentist and to travel to these countries where the people can’t afford dental treatments or do not have access to these luxuries. Throughout my high school career, I have managed to keep a high GPA while being involved in three sports and working part time as a lifeguard for local pools in Eugene. My goal after high school is to attend OSU or BYU, then go into dental school and from there get my license and to having my own practice in the beautiful state of Oregon. I have enrolled in the CHSP to help get one step closer in accomplishing my goal.

My motivations to become a neurosurgeon are my mom and my desire to learn everything I can about the human brain and body. I hope to attend UW for my undergraduate years and have already submitted my application. If accepted I will major in neuroscience. I also hope to attend University of Washington School of Medicine and be a part of their Department of neurology. I want to be able to remove a brain tumor or clip an aneurysm to save a life. I want to be able to fix someone’s spine so they are able to walk again, or to help improve their pain and quality of life. I am unable to improve my mom’s worsening condition, but if there is even a slight chance I will be able to help others in her state, I will do it. Looking at her you would never be able to tell that she has broken her back twice, has spinal arthritis and cervical cartilage degeneration in her spine among other issues. You would never be able to tell that she suffered a massive pulmonary embolism the year before or had two major seizures. My mother is a fighter and starts every day with a smile despite how bad the pain is. I love her with all my heart and I want to make her proud by following my dreams and becoming a neurosurgeon.

For as long as I can remember my desire was to end up in the medical field. When I was younger it was purely the idea of helping people that intrigued me but over time my passion for this field has gone into more depth and has more reasoning behind it. I want to help people overcome their physical and mental obstacles in order to show them they are never alone and they have the opportunity to live their life to the fullest. I joined the medical pathway with a simple interest in what was going to be taught. But during my personal experiences is when I realized how strong my desire still is. The end of my junior year I tore my ACL and had surgery a month later. I had over thirty physical therapy appointments which gave me the opportunity to build a relationship with my pt. Throughout my journey of recovery the amount of hope he gave me made me so determined to really use my time wisely. He showed me how much people in his profession can really change your life in the long run which is exactly the kind of impact I want to have on people. Also a month after my surgery my nineteen year old sister was diagnosed with stage 4 Ewing's Sarcoma Cancer and was told that it was terminal. The amount of doctors appointments I went to really opened my eyes to how much a good nurse or doctor can really affect not only her body, but the way we saw the situation. Her doctor tried multiple treatments to find the one that fits best with her and although they said it was terminal she is now cancer free and continuing treatment in Seattle. The commitment I made to my family in this period of struggle is something I would do over and over again because the biggest reward is truly feeling like you made a difference in someone’s life.

Ever since I was young, my dream was to attend UCLA and become a surgeon. As I have grown up and matured, I’ve realized how unrealistic and silly that dream was. However, my passion and desire to work in the medical field hasn’t changed one bit, it has flourished. As I have taken health classes and been exposed to the medical field, the options and opportunities to help people makes me feel extremely hopeful. My desire is to work in the pediatric or NICU units at hospitals. In this field I want to help save and positively impact the lives of babies and children so that their families don’t have to experience the feeling of losing a child. As someone who has experienced the loss of their cousin, I have seen first hand what losing a child or sibling can do to a family. If I get to spend the rest of my life doing the best I can to help families avoid that trauma and sadness, then I would feel forever grateful and honored. My 4.0 GPA and being a captain on both the soccer and track team shows my commitment to helping and leading others to better themselves and their lives. After high school I plan to attend a 4 year college where I will major in something pre-med and then advance on to the additional schooling I need so that I can fulfill my childhood dream of working in the medical field.

While I can not stop people from getting hurt, I have always tried to help others when they are, whether it is assuring them that the pain will go away, or that it will not hurt at all—much like I do when my younger siblings are hurt. I have always tried to keep them calm, talk to them in a soothing tone, reminding them that it is going to be okay or that it will only hurt a little. I've always loved helping people, especially children, feel better, whether it's cleaning wounds when my siblings got hurt, or taking care of myself when I'm sick. Seeing the brightest of smiles light up their young faces warms my heart to the core and fills me with overwhelming joy. Ever since the first time I had watched "Dr.Quinn: Medicine Woman" when was ten years old, I have been set on working in health care. I always enjoyed how Dr. Quinn was able to help so many people, and all I could do was feel happy that I might one day be able to do the same. Even though my ideas for potential jobs have changed over time, whether it was wanting to be a Pediatrician to a Neonatologist, they were always involved in helping children. After high school, I plan to go to study to become a registered nurse so I can finally pursue my long time dream: taking care of others in any way that I can.

My name is Simone Jackson and I have been given the opportunity to be apart of the Health and Services pathway at Churchill High School. Since a very young age, my career interest remained the same. I have always had a passion to help, support and work with different kinds of animals throughout all sorts of communities. I volunteer in my community by working with Greenhill Humane Society, helping clean kennels and support the animals in any way that I can. I am also apart of many clubs, groups and classes at my school that work to empower others, such as Women's empowerment, Black Student Union, Women in Science and Engineering, AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination) and a few more. I believe in a Holistic approach to any challenges and circumstances that come my way, and want to show what I can accomplish.

I have always been very passionate about child development, health, and safety. Throughout my life, I have met many children who have daily struggles that the average person just doesn't understand. I want to be a Pediatric Nurse because I want to ensure that all children have a voice and live healthy lives. After high school, I intend on attending Lane Community College to get my BSN and to become an RN. My focus is children, my hope is to specialize in Pediatric Nursing or Labor and Delivery Nursing. I want to keep children safe, whether it's their health care, or their home life.

All my life I have been drawn to help change the lives of others for the better, especially those who are underrepresented. I am personally excited about Special Education, Transgender Health, and Plastic Surgery. As I grew up, several friends and family I met had developmental disabilities, letting me get to see the more personal side of Disabled life. I want to work closely with those with disabilities in order to let them know their voice is heard. I have also gone through the long trasition of being a Transgender male and moving through obstacles like Hormone Replacement Therapy, and Top surgery. I want to work towards Sex/Gender Education or Plastic Surgery in order to make the transition across a smoother, and less stressful for others behind me. In my free time, I peer mentor for the Junior Pathway students, volunteering to teach and guide A&P students multiple periods a day. I am currently Vice President of the Lancer's Med Club and work to organize all events and fundraising we may need. These activities show just how dedicated I am to teaching others and helping them understand just how phenomenal the world of medicine truly is. I plan on attending LCC to transfer into OSU in the future

My name is Courtney Kyser and I’m in the Health and Services Pathway at Churchill High School. During the summer of 2018, I attended the Young Women’s Firefighting Camp, where I was inspired not only to pursue a career in paramedicine and firefighting, but also to advocate for women and children within the workforce. Since my experience at camp, I have become an active member of the Medical Club at Churchill, a teen volunteer at Sacred Heart, and the president of Women’s Empowerment Club; all of which have empowered me to speak my truth. In the future, I hope to use my strengths to unite and uplift others while working alongside badass women within a male dominated workforce and to become a role model for aspiring young women.

I decided to join CHSP because the medical field has always fascinated me. My interest in this field began after numerous injuries from gymnastics. I did gymnastics for 11 years and had to do a lot of physical therapy due to those injuries. I’m so thankful for my physical therapists who helped me get back to doing what I loved. Their help allowed me to continue with gymnastics for 4 more years, even after one of my worst injuries, and that’s why I want to pursue a career in physical therapy or sports medicine. Physical therapy has been something I’ve wanted to do because it combines medicine and athletics which are two of the things I love most. Although I’m no longer doing gymnastics, I now coach kids ages 4-14 and it brings me so much joy to watch them progress and improve. I also have been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking College Now and AP classes. I hope to start my education in medicine at OSU next year. I think a career in physical therapy would be amazing because my goal is to help people get back to and continue what they love doing.

I joined the medical pathway because my grandpa was diagnosed with type four lung cancer when I was young and it was hard on his body. I helped him mow the law and fix little things around the house as he grew weaker. Seeing him in his later stages and knowing others do not have the ability to always get help from family members like my grandpa had, made me want to help others that are ill and need help and help them get the best quality care possible. My interests are helping others feel as comfortable and happy as possible with the best quality care I can give. Although I do not know the specific field I want to join in medical, I want to go to Oregon State University or Pacific University to acquire my pre-med and then go to medical school to complete a doctorate. I love helping my elder neighbors and family members run errands and do things around the house they are unable to.

I've always been told that I'm a kind and gentle person, and that I also tend to be very shy and awkward around people, which is something I've been trying to fix. It isn't easy, but being apart of CHSP has showed me that being a social person is important for any health care setting, and life as well. I've been playing and watching soccer since I was in 3rd/4th grade and I noticed that injuries were very common. It frightened me to think that a major injury could set me back, or even worse, keep me from ever playing again. Thanks to God, I've never had to deal with an injury like an ACL tear, but it pains me to know that many people deal with such injuries. Maintaining good condition and health has always been a struggle for me though, too, so I always look and ask for ways to improve it (for myself and others). It was during my time in this class in the past year where I felt like I had an idea of what I wanted to do with my future that wasn't "playing soccer professionally," but using my experience in sports and medicine to help athletes. My plan is to attend college and play soccer there, while studying sports medicine or physical therapy. Doing so would also help me develop the crucial social skills needed to meet my goals.

I’m interested in becoming a Nursing Assistant because I want to work with and help people that are in pain. I saw my grandma suffering in pain for several months. She didn’t receive any medical care because where she lives there's no one that could check on her and tell her what was wrong. Seeing my grandma like that made me want to help others in pain. Becoming a nursing assistant I see myself helping patients in the same way that I help my family out. I’m good at communicating, focusing on what people need, and helping them . I’m also good at recognizing what patients need to make them better and more comfortable. I’m committed to learning about working in medicine and helping others.

I am extremely interested in using movement and exercise to work with and heal the body. When I was a freshman, I herniated a disc between two of my cervical vertebrae. I did physical therapy for it, and I instantly made a connection with my physical therapist. Throughout the process, seeing her ability to use both space and lots of equipment intrigued and inspired me to do what she does every day. Next fall I will be attending the Oregon Institute of Technology in the Biology-Health Sciences department, aiming for the pre-physical therapy pathway. At Churchill, I did leadership during my first two years. This, along with being the president of Young Republicans Club last year, has helped me be able to communicate better with people and form bonds through talking and mainly listening. In the classroom, I help my classmates whenever I can to help all of us have a deeper understanding of the material. I am very committed to learning about how the body works and forming bonds with everybody around me.

Growing up, I’ve always loved to help people. No matter how small the task, changing and helping people's lives has always been something very important to me. I strive to do meaningful work that will benefit people and the society that we live in. My mother had a tumor on her uterus that had to be surgically removed a few years back. Hearing that information was one of the scariest moments of my life. My mother’s surgical team did a great job of explaining everything and made sure we were correctly informed about all the complications, as well as the options we could take to fix the issue. Ever since my mother’s surgery, I've developed a different outlook on medicine and surgery. I look at the medical field careers as an amazing opportunity to provide and heal. I am now so much more interested in human anatomy and surgery. The field provides so much interesting and useful information that I had overlooked before. Playing lacrosse for six years and being a captain my junior and senior year has proved to me that I adore fast paced activities and being a leader that everyone can look up to and depend on. Learning about surgery has become a big goal of mine and is a topic I think about a lot. I am confident that I will fulfill my senior internship with the Churchill Health Services Pathway program at a surgical center this year.

As a person who grew up in foster care for five years, I have experienced a lot of help and care from others. A gratitude for this help has grown over the years because I know that without their help, I would have never have made it to where I am today: a young adult with a stable life, a forever home and an ambition at college. When I think about what I want to pursue as an adult, I am reminded of my passion for wanting to care for others as a way to give back for the help I have received. I want to understand more about the medical aspects of healing, such as physical habits and emotional stability, providing basic health to families and foster kids that can't afford it, and the brain development of children. I also want to know more about the different types of medical professions that are available to me; some that interest me are Trauma Nurse, Paramedic, and Licensed Practical Nurse. I continue to grow intensely more interested in becoming part of the medical society.

I come from a large family, so having little kids around the house is something that has always come naturally. I am interested in becoming a pediatric nurse because I grew up helping my parents with my siblings and baby sitting them whenever I could. My love for helping kids isn't my only motive for wanting to pursue pediatrics. One of the saddest things in the world is the thought of a sick child because the haven't experienced the joys of life. When I was younger my older brother had pneumonia and was on the verge of death because he was given the wrong prescription. I want to become a pediatric nurse in order to make sure children can experience the joys of life, and so that kids like my brother can be properly prescribed. Overall I want to commit my life to the safety and security of children through healthcare.
|
Ever since a young age I’ve had a desire to be of service to others, like to be a police officer or a paramedic. I liked that all the jobs help others and my passion is to always help others no matter the situation. Then as I got older my siblings started to have kids and I was always there to take care of them and help with all the work. I loved doing things for them, for example feeding, giving baths, putting on clothes and even change their diaper. My sister and my brother had at least one child that was in the NICU. Watching how the nurses took care of babies and interacted with them really showed me how much of a difference the nurses make on these babies’ lives. I hope one day I can help others like those nurses helped my nephews.
|
Growing up I have always loved being around babies and children. Ever since I was young I have always loved seeing the new babies come out of the hospital when visiting friends and family members. I love to learn new information about birth and caring for babies. I hope to have many children of my own someday. Because of this I want to take care of and assist mothers and babies after birth in order to provide them with a safe and comfortable environment for one of life’s most precious moments. When I decided to join the medical pathway I made a commitment to pursuing a career in health care. I took it upon myself to find a job relating to health care for my senior year of high school. I am currently a Medical Receptionist at Oregon Ear, Nose, and Throat. In the fall of 2020 I plan on attending Lane Community College to pursue a nursing degree. I would like to find an internship in labor and delivery or in anything revolving around neonatal care.

I have always heard from many people that I am a very social and outgoing person who loves getting to know people. Those descriptions are pretty basic and common, so that's when I hear things such as I have a big heart and want nothing but the best for and of the people who I know and meet, which is true. I have always wanted to be apart and contribute in the best way possible and see amazing outcomes. This connecting with my drive to help people and give them the best possible care, and hope in times that are not looking for the best for them and their families. These values and drive I feel like would help me connect with patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Why I want to become a FNP is just as I explained I want to be part of a team and in an environment where I can positively affect others lives and the ones around them.
|
There are many branches to choose from regarding the medical field, however, nursing interests me the most. I was always exposed to nursing throughout my childhood, whether it had been hospice nurses coming to take care of my ailing father, or coming with my family to the hospital for basic check ups. As a child, being able to witness people help others in such drastic ways had intrigued me. This inspired me to try and relieve the pain and stress of people in hard situations. Ever since that time in my life, I have been the one taking care of my siblings and grandparents in their sickness or deaths. I have also learned how to draw so it could aide me in understanding human anatomy, and have taken as many science and health classes as I could. I plan to continue my studies at either the U of O, Linfield, or LCC.

I’ve always been interested in the medical field since I was young. For a while I wanted to be a Veterinarian, then I wanted to be a doctor. At the age of 10, I lost my sister. I had lost two sisters and from that day forward I wanted to be a Neonatologist. I want to help babies that are going through something similar to what my sister went through. Care is really important in the first few months of a baby’s life and I feel someone who can relate on a personal level to the family that is going through a stressful time can make it easier for me to work my hardest to get the baby healthy and I can support everyone in ways that I felt should’ve been supported.
|
Growing up, I’ve had two career pathways I could follow that would be the “norm” in my family. Military, or Health Care. This option wasn’t hard for me. I’ve always had the greatest fascination with all things medical, I’ve been told when I was 7 and my mother was pregnant with my younger brother that at all her doctors appointments I would be so up close and person in every test, shot, or blood draw she had done. I have a strong passion to feel the need to stand up for the underdogs. I know I don’t only want to “help” people but I want to be a trusted advocate for those who have no one else standing up for them. I also believe my 11 years of Spanish Immersions will be very beneficial when it comes to a workplace, I plan to continue my Spanish throughout college alongside whatever else I decide fits best.

About five years ago my family and I were in a car crash I remember the EMTs coming up making sure that her family was OK and giving us the help we needed that was something that kind of captivated my interest in being in the medical field. When my family and I arrived at the hospital I remember this nurse always come in my room making sure that I was OK and give me updates on my family on how they’re doing. But I also think Grey’s Anatomy has a big part of me wanted to become in medical field just watching them go into action helping people and seeing how much jobs you can find being in the medical field. I know it’s cliché to say that I want to be in the medical field because I like helping people but I genuinely do like helping people. I will be the first person in my family to go to college. I am the type of person who likes to be in the action and good with communicating with people and I want to do something in the medical field but not sure what yet but exploring this pathway is helping me to find a career that I am passionate and interested in. I know I will always find a job in the medical field no matter what it is.

I am interested in working with children in the medical field. Making them kids is something that I look forward to doing as a lifetime career. I love working with kids and being able to make sure they are getting the best help them when they are hurt and sick is something I want to do professionally. I also love learning about adolescent health care, it is very interesting and fun to me.I find it interesting and important because I believe that when I child is being treated they should feel comfortable and happy with the environment they are in. I want to be able to create that environment for children and make sure they get the care they need. That is where I want to put my time and energy. I think I would like to become a pediatric nurse or an Obgyn because of my passion for kids and my drive to work in the medical field. Also because I would like to more specifically work with smaller children. In order to do that I would like to see how this practice in the medical field works and what doctors and nurses actually do on the job. I have not had a lot of experience in any medical field but I am doing all that I can to obtain more experiences in the field. I am in a college readiness program called AVID which has been helping me be on top of my high school years and be able to get into a four year university and helping me make sure my future is bright. Both the Medical pathway and AVID have helped me get more experience and knowledge in the field of medicine. I am committed to work with children in the medical field and put my all into whatever scope of practice I choose and am put into, and I can not wait for my journey to begin.I

From a young age I always knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. Because of my experience in youth sports and treatment from injuries, I was initially interested in physical therapy or sports medicine. CHSP has exposed me to other medical careers. I discovered I can treat athletes (like a physical therapist would) and expand my care to other patients by become a nurse practitioner. Because I love building relationships with people and learning new things that will help me achieve my goals, I believe I can excel in this specific career. Knowing I’ll have the ability to help make a difference in people’s lives really inspires me.

I'm a senior currently enrolled in the Medical Pathway at Churchill High School. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my academic career. I'm involved in many extra curricular activities which shows I can time manage well. I work hard for what I want. From this pathway, as well as personal experience, I want to pursue a career helping people in need of urgent care. Whether this is in the ER or as an EMT, these people have helped change my life as well as save some of my family members. I want to be like that person who keeps families whole and makes people feel safe in times in their times of need.
|
I thrive in team environments, especially when it comes to contributing to a joint project. This, along with my enjoyment for working with my hands, interest in human anatomy, and compassion for people in need, has led me to pursue surgical medicine, with a focus on trauma. I want to use my knowledge and skills to grant patients a second chance, so that their families do not have to suffer the tragedy of a life cut short by a mistake. After high school, I plan on attending a 4 year university for pre-medical studies, medical school to become a general surgeon, and finally, working my way up to becoming a trauma surgeon. Currently, I am a member of the Churchill Health Services Program, where I learn basic medical procedures and general subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. I also participate in volunteer operations such as health screening at local elementary schools and a schoolwide blood drive. I am very excited to take part in internships and job shadows to gain more experience in the field before transitioning to higher education.

Since I was young I knew I had a passion for the medical field. I joined the Churchill medical pathway so it can prepare me for my future as a paramedic. I have managed to work 30 hours a week while maintaining good grades with a full class schedule and football practice after school. I have worked many 15 hour shifts to get a feel for what it is like for medical workers. After football season I plan to work 40-45 hours a week while going to school half-time and going on ride alongs with paramedics. I want to be a paramedic because they are the first medical staff on the scene. Since paramedics are the first on the scene it is important to make the patient feel safe and comfortable so they can put their trust on paramedics and the rest of the medical staff they will see. After high school, my goal is to pursue my dreams of becoming a paramedic by enrolling in the medical program at Lane Community College.
